Time for my customary year end review to take stock of what has happened over the last 12 months and how I see the future of our Great Society.
This time last year we were the 22nd most skilled society on Calypso with a membership, I think, of 6. Currently we have 9 members and are at position 38.
I spoke, on December 31st 2006, about the disappointment of losing new members including Slade, Sumner, Faithful and Tim etc., and pledged to in future only recruit from our Academy.
But life doesn't always work out as planned. Although we did promote Erbe from our Academy, a very deserved and welcome promotion I might add, Scorpio has been further boosted by 4 non-Academy avatars.
I refer of course to our friends from Magnum Opus society who we welcomed to our society a few months ago after courting a merger with them for some time.
And at the moment our new guys are dominating our society in terms of online time and, no doubt, contribution to Scorpio's skills total.
Marcus is currently Scorpio Second-in-Command and I can now formally announce that he will continue in this role, sharing this responsibility with Rav upon his return.
So once again former M.O. members I welcome you to Scorpio and value your contribution both in social terms and to further our ambitions of becoming a Top 20 (or better) society and to one day win land in a land grab.
As is usual in any year we once again lost valued friends. Asti has chipped out to pursue real life happiness with MindStar. Once again guys I wish you both much happiness and good luck in the future.
Rav has chipped out also but promises to return. As I've said before I see Rav as the 'heart and soul' of Scorpio and central to our ambitions and I do hope to see him back next year if his real life plans work out OK...good luck Rav!
Our Academy continues to chug along OK, though I would like to see a larger membership if possible. I do understand the difficulty in recruiting the right calibre of personnel though but this shouldn't stop us trying.
I am very pleased to see the return of Ruki though whom I hope will stay with us this time.
In the last 12 months we have seen many changes including the introduction of banks and new avatar appearance etc. But the year ahead promised to be the most exciting in EU history.
Jet and I in particular are looking forward to the introduction of new planets and the financial boost this should give our space travel business.
How will the new Chinese planet be integrated and what surprises are in store with the new planets and maybe the land grab?
Cryengine will give EU a completely new look and a further boost to popularity I expect.
And one thing I'm looking forward to with interest is the introduction of a cheaper EU cashcard: I think having more fluidity between depositis and withdrawals would be a massive boost for EU.
I hope too for many more EU official events: I think MindArk are getting their act together now with events but I only hope they make them fairer to all, not just ubers.
So plenty of things to look forward to in 2008 and no doubt some unexpected stuff that I'll be writing about this time next year!
But however things pan out I wish all Scorpions a very Happy New Year and may the HoF be with you all! |
